The FITT Principle
In his work with clients and his own training as an athlete, Roy developed the FITT Principle: a set of guidelines that help us set up a workout tailored to our goals and fitness level while helping us to get the most out of our exercise program.
The FITT Principle is an acronym for: Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type. Attention to each element makes every workout with Roy a great experience. Roy trains clients in any type of environment: one-on- one, semi-private, or in a boot camp, helping clients and athletes from all walks of life to achieve the physiques they dream of and to meet their sports performance goals.
FITT clientele work toward a range of health and fitness goals. From young athletes to busy working moms to retirees, Roy focuses on the personal needs of each client. Roy shares the FITT principle in motivational and educational programs to companies and schools in the area. Roy also trains several young high school and college athletes. He currently works with four Division I football players in the off-season and three high school players. He also trains basketball players in their off-season. Athletic training focuses on speed, agility, quickness, strength and conditioning.
By high school, he narrowed his training to his favorite sport, basketball, and played for a team ranked as high as 3rd in the state of Florida.
In college, as a walk-on at South Florida Community College, Roy became a student of the game and took a liking to fitness.
He learned to train and condition himself for his sport and became known as the most conditioned on the team. After his freshman year, he was invited to try out for a local college (Miami Christian College), where his talents flourished – the team won a Division II National Championship.
With a desire to help others, he studied to become a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) at the accredited National Federation of Professional Trainers (NFPT), then a Specialist in Sports Conditioning (SSC) at the accredited International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). It was through these certifications that he developed the FITT Principle and began to adopt it for the success of his clients.
